Sherjil's Media Blog

Hello everyone, my name is Sherjil Munir, and I am a junior at West Broward High. Today, I will be discussing the learning process of camera work. I will explain what I had to do for the project, describe my experience, share the challenges and successes I faced, reflect on what I learned, and finally, talk about what I would do differently to make future projects better. Oh boy, its only been a month but we already done two projects! I would like to discuss my progress and what I have done for these projects. The first project was a video where we had to describe different camera techniques, and the other one was about a storyboard where camera techniques were expressed as a picture storyboard.

First, let's discuss my learning process of my work:

My learning process of the camera work was relatively easy for me to navigate and my friends were assigned to do a video where we show different camera angles and techniques, and how it is applied in the media recording aspect.   The way we were told to tell the story was by applying angle camera shots, such as static shots, boom shots, trucking, tracking, etc. Our project video can be shown link below.

Secondly, Let's discuss my experience and what the project was about.

The video was about a scenario where my friend walked down the hallway and nobody wished him a happy birthday. The story shows him becoming sad and devastated because people seemed to forget his birthday. Later in the video, a group of friends finally wished him a happy birthday. The experience of working on this project allowed me to learn how these different camera techniques are applied. As I was the cameraman, I got to learn more.

Now let's discuss the challenges  and sucess I had with this project.

The challenges we faced were how to come up with what angles or shots we used to properly apply them. It took us an abundant amount of time to think and process. As we were making the video, we had to do many reshoots to make our shots be perfectly implied.  For example, we had to do many reshoots on the last scene where we showed a pan shot facing directly to gift my friend freinds gave him for his birthday party. The sucess of this project is atleast the end result was perfectly matched and each camera shot was utilize properly.

Let's now learn what I learn throughout the process.

The things I learned  during the process were how to use cmaera shot such as trucking where you move left to right , tracking where the camera movs front to back, and a tilt where I larn how you slowly move the camera down or move it in a diffrent direction in a tilt format.

The things that I would do differently for future projects are maybe to increase my understanding of camera shots and use better or elevated scenery to explain the processes. I will also learn how to do these things by practice these things when projects start to approach. Media studies consists of much more camera techniques to learn so there is more for me to adapt and learn.

Now let me shift towards another project I did with my friend. This project differs from the video project as it assesses how to use certain camera angles as a picture. The learning process was how to apply the camera shots in a picture format. We are assign  a storyboard where we have to use camera angles to describe it. The storty is called "The Lost Cause."The pictures included how to use a wide shot, close up shots, point of view shots, and e.t.c. These shots were applied to show our story's character details and to get a better grasp and view.
Secondly, let's discuss what the project was about and what was our experience of creating this.

The project was about a white Crayola crayon that feels lost because he can’t draw on the paper, which is also white. He sees the other colors drawing and having fun, which makes him feel out of place and isolated. At one point in the story, he feels broken, until he meets a white colored pencil who teaches him about using colored paper. My personal experience was I had fun telling a story with the help of my friend about how a white crayon is isolated from the other crayons. The camera techniques allowed us to see what each of these characters is feeling. For example, in one of the scenes, we used a long shot which showed the crayons competing with other and showed greater detail of what they are competing for and coloring. Shots like these grasp a more experienced view of how the camera shots shows grater details on an aspect.

Thirdly, lets discuss my challenges and sucess about this project
The challenge s were of how it was hard to take certain pictures of the crayons. There were some instances, where we had to use certain objects to hold the camera tight due to a specfic shot. The camera shots took us a long time since we had to grasp ideas  on how to angle thing and what type of objects we should use to convey our story. The sucess we had in this project was atleat our  project got the story we wanted. Despite all of the hard work, it paid off since  we wer able to figure our ideas into a storyboard with camera angles.

Now lets discuss what I learn,
The things I got to learn were of how to use certain shots such as a wide shot to show audience a broader idea of a long detailed picture of what the crayloas are doing and point of view shot where we directly show the crayola drawing out color.

Finally, let's discuss what I would do differently regarding this project. Like I said before, I would keep striving and grasping more knowledge as we swim through the course of media studies to make better modfications and improvements. I will next time make sure to condense my ideas and have a better, clearer understanding of using more creative scenes to describe the camera shots. This can be done by having a better background or scenery that can enhance the audience engagment. From these aspects I will strive to learn. this will help me to improve and be better for the next project we might have.

That's all I have today to talk about, and I will keep updating my blog and my progress. For today, I would like to sign off!
